Did you know that Germany attacked the U.S. in 1918? Germany’s largest submarine surfaced in Nauset Beach in the Cape Cod town of Orleans and created local havoc as it tried to destroy an underwater cable connecting us to France. This was the first time that foreign ordinance had exploded on U.S. soil since the Mexican War in 1846. Come meet Jackie Stern, a representative of the Massachusetts Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Program, and Deputy Chief Roy Frost of the Billerica Police Department, on Tuesday, January 11, at 2:00 p.m. at the Billerica Council on Aging, 25 Concord Rd., Billerica, MA 01821, and participate in a discussion on how to prevent, detect, and report healthcare errors, fraud and abuse. We all can have an active role in protecting Medicare for ourselves and future generations. This free information workshop will provide you with the tools to become a more informed and engaged health care consumer, including the importance of protecting your Medicare number. Join Janet Habeshian and learn to make beautiful hand-crafted cards. The cost is $6.00 per class. In each session, participants will make four hand-crafted cards. Join the BCOA in honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with lunch and a movie. The movie is ‘Freedomland’ starring Julianne Moore and Samuel L. Jackson. Lunch will be provided by the Travelling Chef and includes BBQ Chicken, Rice and Beans, Warm Peach Cobbler and Garden Salad. Cost is $6.00, Maximum of 30 people. Join in the fun! Learn how to sew fleece mittens. Class is Free, Maximum of 8 people Class includes one pre-cut pair of fleece children’s mittens. Sewing machines will be set up in the 2nd floor Art Room. You will go home with instructions & patterns for other sizes. You are welcome to cut another pair from our donated fleece fabrics. You will go home with a pair of mittens, instructions, some sewing machine practice and maybe inspiration to continue sewing. Sign up by Tuesday, January 18 on myactivecenter.com.
